Over in the Forest: a StoryWalk at Whitten Woods

This Spring's story is Over in the Forest by Marianne Berkes with illustrations by Jill Dubin. Landing a spot on Bank Street's Best Book list in 2012, this story features young animals learning to navigate their new homes. Visit the StoryWalk® at Whitten Woods between April 1st and March 30th. After you’re done enjoying the story, stop by the Ashland Free Library to check out Over in the Forest and enjoy a craft based on the book!

FULL – Drawn to Nature: Learning to Nature Journal

Have you ever slowed down long enough to truly notice the patterns on a leaf, the texture of tree bark, or the way light dances across the water? Nature journaling is a simple yet powerful way to deepen your connection with the outdoors. It’s the practice of recording your observations of nature, through sketches, notes, questions, and reflections. Join us for a welcoming, hands-on nature journaling program open to all ages and experience levels.

Salamander Brigade Program & Crafts

Join LRCC members Kevin, Macie and Diego for a fun after-school lesson at the Ashland Town Library on amphibian conservation and the upcoming spring Salamander Brigade. Following the presentation, participants can help craft salamander crossing signs and other creative projects.

The Art of Upcycling

Join the Squam Lakes Association for drop-in workshop on upcycling where we’ll transform everyday discarded materials into imaginative sculptures, mosaics, and characters. Using bottle caps, aluminum cans, plastic lids, old electronics, and other recycled materials, participants will reimagine trash as treasure.

Science Pub: Be Lake Smart

Join us at Walter's Basin for tips for becoming LakeSmart. You can be a hero for your lake! What happens on your property affects the lake, whether you live along it or miles from it.

Life Under Glass: DIY Biosphere in a Jar

Join the SLA and build your own self-sustaining "Squam in a Jar" by collecting local soil and "murky" water to jumpstart a miniature living ecosystem. You will learn how to layer these natural elements so your biosphere can recycle its own air and water for years to come!

Timberdoodling: Looking for Spring’s Funkiest Bird

Timberdoodle, Bog sucker, Night Partridge, Labrador Twister, are just a few of the strange names attributed to this strange bird. Join us as we search for the elusive and wonderful American woodcock, a spring ambassador with a display as weird as its many names!

Conservation & Cinema: Lessons from Jellystone

Get ready for a big-screen adventure as we kick off National Park Week! Join us at the SLA for an interactive viewing of the 2010 movie Yogi Bear. This fun afternoon connects the mission of the National Park Service to our own backyard, teaching you how to be a real-life protector of natural spaces.

(CANCELED) Earth Day Meteor Shower Viewing & Campfire

The best way to spend Earth Day is outside! Join us for a fun evening viewing of the Lyrid's meteor shower around a warm campfire with s'mores. Chat with neighbors about Earth Day and what it means to you while observing one of the great astronomy events of spring.
