Robbin Keith Adams

Stormy New Years Eve Day on Squam

Dimensions: 16" x 14"
Medium: Graphite and Prismacolor pencils
Artist's Statement
My life has always revolved around art in one way or another. I grew up in Massachusetts and came to Plymouth State College to study art. I loved it so much up here that I decided to stay! I received my BFA in 1983 in printmaking with a concentration in drawing. You can see that love of drawing in my prints. I often combine drawings with printmaking. It is a lot of fun to make them work together.

I currently reside in Campton, NH with my husband Peter. We built a lovely home with a studio just for me! I’ll never overlook the fact that we live in a beautiful place. Our family has had years of adventures sailing (on Squam) hiking and cycling in Central NH and beyond. This area has, and will always be, a focus of my work: the landscapes, botanicals, lakes and the feelings of living in Central New Hampshire.

Lupine Birch Edge

Dimensions: 7" x 6"
Medium: Fused glass
Artist's Statement
Having been brought up in an “artsy” family, I spent my childhood creating “beautiful things”. Even as an adult working as a school psychologist, I used arts and crafts as a means to engage and teach children. I discovered fused glass as a medium for my own expression after I took a class at the Currier Art School in  Manchester. I was hooked and have spent the last 20+ years learning and creating fused glass. I currently sell at two cooperative artisan galleries- Squam Lakes Artisans and Artistic Roots.

As a glass addict, artist and resident of NH for the majority of my life, I find no end to the inspiration found in our seasonal beauty and year-round variety, from the white birches and purple lupines of spring mountains, to the intense blaze of fall color or the clear glowing night sky. Glass is my partner, helping to portray my interpretation of this majestic beauty. I often play with depth and texture within layers of glass to reflect the variety of nature in my designs.

Joan Barnum

Piper Cove

Dimensions: 9” x 12”
Medium: Plein Air, oil on linen
Artist's Statement
As a representational painter, I find it easy to get caught up in painting things – a beautiful sunset, a maple tree in brilliant fall color, a red barn on a hillside. As I paint, however, I constantly have to remind myself of what I really need to see and paint: light and atmosphere. The color of the light as it changes throughout the day, and with differing weather conditions, affects the color of everything it illuminates. And the atmosphere acts as a veil between us and what we see, cooling and desaturating the colors of objects in the distance. So, when I see a beautiful scene that I want to paint, this is what I focus on as I try to make that three-dimensional scene come to life on a two-dimensional surface.

Squam and its Yards

Dimensions: 30” x 15”
Medium: Oil on canvas
Artist's Statement
Painting has been a lifelong passion. As a keen observer of my surroundings, I marvel at the nuances of natural light and color interacting in landscapes, shapes, and everyday objects. This interplay greatly influences my artwork, evoking a mood, a sense of mystery, or a hint of discovery. The enduring beauty of Squam Lake and its natural surroundings has sparked my creativity since childhood and continues to fuel my artistic journey. It’s these captivating scenes that inspire me to paint, as well as to choose specific techniques, whether it be brushwork, a palette knife, or a combination of both. I currently display and sell my artwork at Squam Lakes Artisans Gallery in Sandwich and the Center Sandwich Fine Craft Gallery.

Will They Come Back?

Dimensions: 17" x 23"
Materials: Foam print/ collage
Artist's Statement
I have lived in Holderness, New Hampshire and on White Oak Pond for over twenty years. My inspiration comes from the beautiful natural world around us, especially my garden, the fields and woods near our house and White Oak Pond. I am fascinated with the constantly changing colors, textures and light both on and near the pond. My first medium was printing with foam plates, but I have been experimenting with acrylics, water color crayons, soft pastels, and collage. Each medium gives me a different way to express what I see, experience and feel.

Woolsey Conover

Squam Lake Cruisers

Dimensions: 27.5" x 21.5"
Materials: Oil on Canvas
Artist's Statement
I have, for the past 20 years, studied, drawn and painted for the creative pleasure it gives me. At this stage of my artistic development and life, I am thankfully able to spend more time at and bring more intensity to my work.

Concentrating on oil paint as my medium of choice, I have included still life arrangements and portraits in my work. However, my favored subjects, where my muse has led me, are landscapes, primarily in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region which often include some form of architecture and/or human beings as the picture’s focal point. My principal objective is to capture the emotions of those who truly love this region. Upon reflection, my artistic heritage includes 20th Century painters Edward Hopper and Fairfield Porter, two well known and highly respected artists who were diligent in their efforts to create evocative, satisfying and, at the same time understandable, works of art.

My friend and principal mentor, David Ratner (1922-2005) once told me in his whimsical way, “One good thing about being an artist is that you don’t hurt anyone, and once in a while you’ll do something that will give someone a little pleasure. How can life be better than that?”…words that resonate with me every time I pick up a paintbrush.

Shadow

Dimensions: 11" x 7" x 8.5"
Materials: Ceramic and glaze
Artist's Statement
I use play, chance, and a collaboration with gravity to create ceramics that are a visceral record of movement and materials colliding. My work draws inspiration from my observations of nature. I am drawn to how land and life forms tell us the story of their creation in the marks on their surfaces and the postures of their bodies. Erosion by wind and rain, freeze-thaw cycles, tectonic upheavals, and biological growth and decomposition create an intricate web of contingencies that shape our world. I strive to make sculptures that possess a similar elemental happenstance.

By dropping and tossing meticulously worked clay slabs, I relinquish control of form to gravity in an act that is akin to natural phenomena. Through this process, I enter into a reciprocal conversation with the material that acts as a generative engine to bring forth new forms and lines of inquiry. I conjure gravity as unifier, the force that shapes my work, the landscapes we inhabit, and our own bodies, rooting us to the earth. Once vitrified by the fire of the kiln, the hardened ceramics retain fluid impressions of this fleeting, energetic state, moments frozen in time.

Marian Federspiel

Liquid Luminescence

Dimensions: 12" x 25"
Materials: Digital painting
Artist's Statement
I am a digital landscape painter in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. I am in awe of the landscape around me and continually draw inspiration from it’s patterns and colors. I have a graphic design background—I was in advertising design for 20 years before teaching digital art in Laconia High School for nearly 20 years—so my drawings are informed by a graphic sensibility.

I use a drawing program, Adobe Illustrator, to create my images by substituting pixels for paint and a mouse for a brush; the computer monitor becomes my canvas. I plan a drawing in my head first, visualizing the layout from a scene that speaks to me, and often do a quick pencil sketch, I usually take a number of photos as reference and place them in my document, and then start drawing my vision with the mouse. The images are constructed in layers with each piece containing hundreds of objects (lines or marks), each object on it’s own layer.

After the drawing is complete, it is printed with seven colors of ink on matte paper on an ink-jet printer. The result is a brilliantly colored serigraph-like print.

I studied art at the University of Connecticut and have a BFA in painting. I also have a MEd from Lesley University.

Loonlet's First Minnow

Dimensions: 36" x 27"
Materials: Canvas photographic print
Techniques: Canvas print from full frame DSLR large format photography
Artist's Statement
It is my pleasure to share breathtaking moments from Lake Winnipesauke, the White Mountains and surrounding Lakes Region. At 36, I’m back in my native New Hampshire, following a decade-long journey of storytelling through film and photography extended across the globe from Cambodia to Uganda, New Zealand, even the southern tip of Chile – a life and gallery that spans almost every continent.

Currently living at Lake Winnipesaukee’s shoreline, I begin most days, listening to songbirds, tracking paw prints and waiting for the saturated hue of morning’s light. From stunning moments of a baby loon’s first hunt, resident bald eagles taking flight, trout navigating starry waters, macro wonders, and a once in a  lifetime total solar eclipse are some of the images that I’ve prepared for you.

Every image from this limited Lakeside print set has a story of a journey, patience and chance.

Sara Goodman

Squam Ridge Line

Dimensions: 5 panels each measuring 2’ X 3’ and 11’ total when hung
Materials: Silk, natural dyes (indigo, weld, fustic, marigold, osage, cochineal, madder root, chestnut), alum, iron and symplocos mordants
Techniques: Shibori, block printing, stitching
Artist's Statement
Sara has been dyeing and weaving cloth since 1975. In this technological age of non-stop multi-tasking, everything she does takes an astounding amount of time. Mordanting and painting fabric with natural dyes, weaving cloth from lustrous silks and other natural fibers, finishing scarves with long tails of finely twisted fringe — it is all her way of taking a stand against the encroaching sameness of the marketplace. She teaches, travels, creates, studies and collects textiles. Her work connects her to textile artisans reaching back through history and continuing to make handmade cloth today all over the world.

Sailfish by Yard Island on Squam

Dimensions: 18" x 24"
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Artist's Statement
I live and paint in the beautiful Lakes Region of New Hampshire, inspired by the lakes, mountains and woodlands that surround us. A self-taught artist, I enjoyed painting as a hobby during my years raising a family and working as a Registered Nurse. After retiring 14 years ago, I began studying painting in earnest, taking in-person and online classes and workshops. With a studio space in my home, I now paint almost every day! I exhibit and sell my paintings at The Galleries at 30 Main in Meredith as well as online from my website, and I offer small group acrylic painting classes to adults, teens and children.

Sumner Hatch

The Three Sisters

Dimensions: 16" x 20"
Medium: Gelatin silver print
Artist's Statement
I was born and raised in the mountains of New Hampshire and have spent every summer of my life on Squam Lake, surrounded by the people I love most, in the place I love most. Despite moving to New York City over twenty years ago and building my career there, the lake and its inhabitants have remained my most enduring subject as a photographer. Photographs freeze a moment and help us perceive the flow of time, which in turn allows us to appreciate our own position in it. Whenever I put my 8x10 inch large-format camera on its tripod and compose an image on the ground glass, it's as if I'm looking back in time, watching some distant ancestor swim in the waters, hike the Squam Range, or paddle a canoe through fields of lily pads. Later, when I develop the negatives and begin printing them under the red light of my darkroom, I see not only the warm shadow of centuries past, but also my own memories of the summer that has just gone by, and a glimpse forward at those still to come.

Jean Kennedy

View of Winnisquam

Dimensions: 12" x 16"
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Artist's Statement
My painting journey began many years ago and has evolved from simple watercolor sketches to the more complex oil paintings that I do now. I switched to oils a few years ago because I felt it gave me more freedom to explore a wider variety of subject matter without fear of failure.

I am always on the lookout for interesting subject matter. My preferences for painting material are varied, but I particularly like to paint scenes from nature and living here in the Lakes Region has provided much material and inspiration. You do not have to look far to see the beauty of this area.

For me, painting is an emotional experience. It is not sufficient to paint something accurately, but my work must also be able to convey something meaningful. If I can make the viewer pause and think about my art, I have succeeded. Visiting art museums and reading art literature continues to motivate and inspire me on my artistic journey.

Alphabet Quilt

Dimensions: 36" x 46"
Medium: Hand dyed silk
Artist's Statement
In contrast to artists who start out with a relatively unattractive raw canvas as their surface, I take the perhaps more challenging route of working with intrinsically beautiful material, silk. I hand-dye the silk using traditional Japanese techniques. Whether I'm remembering my early days on horseback or witnessing nature on Squam Lake, where I've spent the last 35 years, I share with you my love of color: with examples such as the whimsical children's alphabet or the direct image of a horse.

I studied at the Boston Museum School and received my MFA from the Art Institute of Boston/Lesley College. I've traveled to Japan and had the good fortune to attend workshops with other artists who do batik or traditional silk dyeing from Indonesia and California. But it is here on Squam Lake that I find the best setting for seeing colors on silk as they shift from morning light to evening.

Summer Afternoon - SLA

Dimensions: 12" x 16”
Medium: Oil on canvas
Artist's Statement
The natural beauty of the New England landscape has been such an inspiration to me in both Plein-air and studio painting. The ever-changing colors of the season continue to challenge me, and it is so rewarding to feel a painting come to life. Moving from Minnesota 25 years ago and finding that special place in the Lakes Region has me feeling fortunate to share my work and connect with other artists in the community.

I studied art in college, however it was not until I was raising 3 young boys in a Minnesota winter that I found my way back to painting. The Danforth Museum School and Boston Guild Artist, William Bartlett have given me the great foundations of painting that make this such a great creative life journey for me.

MaryAnn McGarry

Dimensions: 12" x 9”
Medium: Mixed media monoprint on canvas

She has been an advocate for lakes education throughout her career and now hopes to create art to inspire people to engage in conservation and stewardship of natural places, including lakes, forests, wetlands, and ridgelines. She continues to take art classes to develop her printmaking skills with her mentor Annette Mitchell, also formerly of PSU, at Artistic Roots in Plymouth, NH. From March through June 2025, MaryAnn has an exhibit of prints focused on "Winter Activities in the Whites" as a visiting artist at Artistic Roots. Originally from Colorado, when MaryAnn is not engaged in art, she loves outdoor adventures- skiing, hiking, paddleboarding and biking, which allow her to explore and observe the natural world and provides her with ideas for artwork.

Shani Mclane

New Hampshire Flowers

Dimensions: 14” x 16”
Medium: Silk screen and fused glass
Artist's Statement
My prints are individual essays capturing my personal thoughts and influences at a particular time in my life. Similar to a journal, I record my observations, feelings, and reflections. I am especially inspired by my Scandinavian heritage and aim to have the aesthetic of minimalism enriched with beauty. A strong force in my imagery has been the amplification of natural patterns representing the importance of the natural world and its ever changing existence as we know it. In such a fast-paced world, I am drawn to the interpretation and simplification of the overlooked beauty around us.

Jean Meloney

Sticks & Stone

Dimensions: 9” x 4" x 4”
Medium: Ceramic
Artist's Statement
My art is a reflection of my whimsical side. I love to be playful and fun in life and my work. Without play, life would be so very dull. Spontaneity prevails when I work, as clay speaks to me in different ways, while I work and play with it. Though I may start with an idea, it changes and morphs as I work. Glazing adds another entire dimension, as I never know how my spontaneity will affect the outcome. It’s the “go with the flow" approach in creating.

Dimensions: 44” x 21”
Medium: Locally grown and milled pine
Artist's Statement
Inspired by nature, Laurent’s work is both recognizable and playful, inspired by the environments he has lived in; Hawaii, the Seychelles, and Holderness. His pieces reflect a deep connection to place, material, and storytelling through design. His artistic expression takes many forms, from custom furniture to distinctive and imaginative wall art.

Laurent enjoys working with locally and sustainably sourced wood, telling the story of the original tree through woodworking and wall art. With a meticulous eye for detail and form, he brings a unique vision to every piece, blending craftsmanship with creativity. He enjoys building relationships with customers while building custom furniture with the goal of the pieces becoming heirloom pieces.

Molly Lovett Simpson

View of West Rattlesnake from the Deephaven Bight

Dimensions: 21” x 17”
Medium: Acrylic
Artist's Statement
I’ve had a lifelong connection to Holderness and the Squam Lake region. My grandmother roamed the same areas with friends and captured many of these views in watercolor a generation ago. Much of my own painting inspiration comes from times I’ve shared with others — walks, hikes, kayaking, or sitting by the lake in the early morning. All places are seen frequently but interpreted differently with the medium used.

With acrylics, I try to capture the colors and depth of the landscape. I like using quick brush strokes of “broken color” to let the brain connect the colors rather than blending the paint. Like many of the Impressionists’ works, the farther away you get, the clearer the scene becomes… I jokingly tell friends to look at my work from the parking lot!

The Birches series was part of an experiment reproducing textures by “printing” the bark of birch logs to create images of the trees themselves. I used pen & ink and charcoal to enhance the acrylic bark printing.

Molly Stark

Brook on Archibald Stark Property

Dimensions: 28” x 23”
Medium: Acrylic
Artist's Statement
Molly Stark is a Granite State native from Holderness, New Hampshire. Her interest in art led her to the Art Department of the University of New Hampshire, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree, graduating with high honors.

Like her ancestors, Molly has a strong sense of conviction and independence, as well as a love for the land. She feels that you must be true to yourself even if it means swimming against the tide.

Her artwork reflects her deep appreciation of nature, particularly the quiet beauty of the hidden spots of New England. Her realistic works reflect organic, textural, peaceful scenes. Her versatility becomes apparent in her paintings, which cross back and forth from realistic to abstract. Regardless of the avenue she chooses, her themes remain true to nature.
