LAKES REGION CONSERVATION CORPS AT THE SQUAM LAKES ASSOCIATION

The Squam Lakes Association is a non-profit conservation organization that works to conserve the natural beauty, peaceful character, and resources of the Squam watershed. Through conservation, education, and low-impact recreation, the SLA promotes the protection, careful use, and shared enjoyment of the Squam Lakes Region.

LRCC SLA Experience  / Half Year
In the spring/summer months (May- October) members scuba dive to remove aquatic invasive species, act as caretakers of our low impact campsites, maintain the SLA's 50+ miles of trails, monitor water quality, lead volunteer crews, run engaging environmental education programs, remove terrestrial invasive species, and educate the public on local and regional conservation initiatives.  Members also will spend nights out camping while they act as campsite caretakers at the Squam Lake's Association's low-impact island campsites. Members serving during the summer months have the opportunity to receive numerous certifications and housing is provided for members.  

Half-Year Summer/Fall Lakes Region Conservation Corps members at the SLA receive the following over the course of the program:

  • Scuba diving certification
  • Weed control diver certification
  • Lake Host training
  • NH Commercial boating license
  • Wilderness First Aid & CPR certifications
  • Housing with kitchen facilities
  • Living allowance (subject to state and federal taxes)
  • $534 distributed biweekly (before taxes)
  • AmeriCorps Education Award:
  • Half-Year: $3,172.50 (dependent on successful completion of service)
LRCC SLA Experience  / Full Year

Full-year members serving at the SLA have the opportunity to experience the seasonal nature of conservation from November through August. In the winter months, members maintain the SLA's 50+ miles of trails, trek onto the ice covered lake to monitor water quality, lead volunteer crews in the field, run engaging environmental education programs and hikes, conduct snow-removal efforts to facilitate access, assist with developing conservation protocols and reports, and educate the public on local and regional conservation initiatives. 

Full-Year Lakes Region Conservation Corps Members At The SLA Receive The Following Over The Course Of The Program:

  • Wilderness First Aid & CPR
  • SSI Open Water Diver certification
  • Weed Control Diver certification
  • NH Commercial boating license
  • Plow Operator training
  • Winter Water Quality training
  • Housing with kitchen and laundry facilities
  • Living allowance (subject to state and federal taxes)
  • $557 distributed biweekly (before taxes)
  • AmeriCorps Education Award
  • Full-year (42.5 weeks): $6,496
