Timberdoodling: Looking for Spring’s Funkiest Bird

Today's Adventure Ecology:
Timberdoodle, Bogsucker, Night Partridge, Labrador Twister, are just a few of the strange names attributed to this strange bird. Join us as we search for the elusive and wonderful American woodcock, a spring ambassador with a display as weird as its many names. This event will start with a brief introduction to the woodcock and its various calls. We will then carpool to Page Pond Communty Forest to witness the spring spectacle.
This Adventure Ecology is a perfect opportunity for anyone who loves birds, wants to explore some spring habitats, or simply socialize in a fun outdoor setting. All ages are welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult.

What to bring
Please bring a headlamp, water, and snacks. Participants should dress appropriately for wet and potentially cold spring conditions. Bug spray, sunscreen, and extra layers are always a safe bet when spring hiking. If you have binoculars or ID book those are also very helpful, The SLA has some but does not gurantee enough for all participants.
Meet this week's guide
Kevin Jones is a passionate 2026 LRCC Education and Outreach Assistant who recently graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a conservation degree. He is an avid birder and angler with a love for outdoor recreation. Kevin is knowledgeable in a variety of outdoor topics and ready to learn or share with others.
