    Fire is Alive

    Join us from 2 pm - 4 pm as we hike around 2.0 miles up Old Bridle Path to the Rattlesnake lookout learning all about Fire Ecology from SLA's Corbin Faidley. Fire plays an important role in our ecosystems, learn about some of the plants and animals' adaptations to this element.

    FULL: I Lichen Fungi

    May 25, 2025 @ 10:00 am–12:00 pm

    This will be a 2.0-mile hike through Belknap woods looking for mushrooms! Mushrooms love wet weather and spring temperature so come prepared for some awesome finds. Participants will gain an understanding of the life cycle and life strategies fungi have for reproducing and surviving as well as appreciating the diversity found in northeastern forests.

    Who’s that Bird?

    May 31, 2025 @ 8:00 am–10:00 am

    We will hike around 3 miles through the Five Finger Point using Merlin and bird ID books to hopefully spot some birds and add to participants lifer lists. If you are an experienced birder please join! If you have no experience birding we’ll teach out the basic about what to look for when ID-ing a bird.

    Volunteer: Weed Watchers Training Day

    May 31, 2025 @ 10:00 am–2:00 pm

    Join the Squam Lakes Association for the first Weed Watchers training session of the season and learn how to identify aquatic invasives. After this training session, you will be able to look for invasive species like variable milfoil on your own and know how to report sightings on Squam as an official Weed Watcher!

    Art vs. Science

    June 1, 2025 @ 10:00 am–12:00 pm

    Join the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) on an exploration through Chamberlain Reynolds Memorial Forest on Sunday, June 1st from 10:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m. learning about scientific drawings. During the hike you will learn about the history and use of scientific drawing and be walked through the process of creating your own based on the surrounding environment.

    Volunteer: Water Quality Training

    June 1, 2025 @ 1:00 pm–4:00 pm

    The Squam Lakes Association's water-quality data set is the oldest in the northeast, and we need YOU to help keep it going. Volunteer water quality monitoring is a great way to get involved in the Squam community, get outside, and contribute to important research. Join LRCC members Hunter and Carolina to learn how to conduct water sampling.
