Through stories, discovery, and creativity, your child will explore the fascinating world of insects. They will learn what makes an insect an insect, what roles insects play, and will create their very own critters.

    Join the Squam Lakes Association for our Adventure Ecology program focused on the science and beauty of the natural soundscape. You will learn how to identify the unique auditory signatures of the watershed while reconnecting with the environment through mindful listening.

    The days of using a landline to call your county for rare bird alerts is in the past! Join us Saturday March 28th from 7:30-10:30 am at the Squam Lakes Association to learn how to download and use “eBird” and “Merlin Bird ID” apps and bird in the digital age! Join LRCC member Kevin Jones in a fun morning of birding and learning new technology.

    FULL – Drawn to Nature: Learning to Nature Journal

    Have you ever slowed down long enough to truly notice the patterns on a leaf, the texture of tree bark, or the way light dances across the water? Nature journaling is a simple yet powerful way to deepen your connection with the outdoors. It’s the practice of recording your observations of nature, through sketches, notes, questions, and reflections. Join us for a welcoming, hands-on nature journaling program open to all ages and experience levels.

    Join the SLA and build your own self-sustaining "Squam in a Jar" by collecting local soil and "murky" water to jumpstart a miniature living ecosystem. You will learn how to layer these natural elements so your biosphere can recycle its own air and water for years to come!

    Timberdoodle, Bog sucker, Night Partridge, Labrador Twister, are just a few of the strange names attributed to this strange bird. Join us as we search for the elusive and wonderful American woodcock, a spring ambassador with a display as weird as its many names!

    Get ready for a big-screen adventure as we kick off National Park Week! Join us at the SLA for an interactive viewing of the 2010 movie Yogi Bear. This fun afternoon connects the mission of the National Park Service to our own backyard, teaching you how to be a real-life protector of natural spaces.

    Join the Squam Lakes Association for a hands-on program where we’ll practice the age-old tradition of knots! We’ll start with the basics, learning both how to tie a knot and its many functions. After practicing, we’ll put our new skills to the test by building a shelter.

    Join the Squam Lakes Association for a hands-on bleach printing program. Using leaves and other interesting materials found in the natural environment, we’ll transform old clothes/fabric into unique creations. Whether you consider yourself an artist or not, this simple process is accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
