    Canopy of Contagion

    Come join us as we learn about forest pathology! We will identify cankers, wilts, foliar diseases and some fungi on this 2.5 mile hike around Chamberlain Renyolds memorial forest.

    Moss Mosey

    July 19, 2025 @ 10:00 am–12:00 pm

    Come join us on a 2.0 mile hike around Belknap wood to identify and learn about different moss species. On July 19 from 10:00 pm to 12:00 pm Squam Lakes Conservation Corps member Emma Murray will lead an exploratory hike about mosses.

    Paddle the Lake

    Do you want to learn more about navigating Squam Lake? Are you camping on our public islands and want to get more comfortable navigating a canoe with camping supplies? Join the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) on an out and back paddle to Moon and Bowman islands on Saturday, July 26th from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. During our paddle we’ll go over how to navigate open water, identify the Squam islands, learn how safely canoe, and explore the islands trails and beaches.

    Hiking Haikus

    Join the Squam Lakes Association for a morning of hiking and learning about the Japanese poetry form known as haiku. This is a great program for anyone looking to appreciate nature using a fun and simple poetry form. If you enjoy creative expression and hiking, we hope to have you join us for this program!

    Polyploidy Perusal

    August 16, 2025 @ 9:00 am–12:00 pm

    On July 26 from 9-12 we will be leading a 2.0 mile hike around Chamberlain Reynolds memorial forest to teach about fern identification! Come learn about how these plant evolved and adapted from an oceanic planet to today’s dry rocky terrain.

    Sun Printing

    August 30, 2025 @ 1:00 pm–4:00 pm

    If you love the sun and mother earth you will love this program! We will be hosting a sun printing workshop using leaves, other natural materials, and an acrylic paint solution to print onto 100% cotton or silk materials. We will hold this event at the Squam Lakes Association barn building from 1-4 as a drop in event.

    Beaver: The Wetland Weaver

    September 6, 2025 @ 10:00 am–12:00 pm

    This beaver extravaganza will begin with a brief discussion before we kayak out to the beaver dam in Pipers Cove to explore.

    Botany Bonanza

    September 13, 2025 @ 9:00 am–12:00 pm

    We will be exploring Homestead Forest trail on a 2.7-mile loop trail that takes you through a variety of terrain, swamp, caves, deciduous forest and conifer forests. Squam Lakes conservation corps member Emma Murray will be leading this hike through this beautiful property maintained by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust. By the end of the hike you will be able to identify the trees and other plants that are giving you shade on your hikes.

    Fall Foliage Hike up Red Hill

    September 27, 2025 @ 10:00 am–2:00 pm

    We will be hiking Red Hill, a 3.5 mile round trip hike with stunning views of the surrounding lakes and mountains. Enjoy a steep climb with a fall vista that will make all your effort worth the while!

    Squam in Fiber (Felting)

    October 4, 2025 @ 2:00 pm–4:30 pm

    From 2 pm - 4:30 pm on October 4 we will be hosting a felting workshop. We will be out capturing the beauty of Pipers Cove as an introductory lesson or a way to connect with other felters in the area. We will have all the supplies necessary for participation but bring your own if you would like.
