Conservation & Cinema: Lessons from Jellystone

Today's Program:
Is it possible that a bear with a taste for picnic baskets is actually a conservation expert in disguise? Bring your children to the Squam Lakes Association to help us kick off National Park Week! We'll start our program with a "Ranger Briefing" on the National Park Service mission followed by an interactive screening of the 2010 film Yogi Bear. While the movie plays, children will get to sketch their favorite plants/animals and use "Ranger Report Cards" to grade Yogi’s outdoor behavior. We’ll finish by exploring the real-life "Jellystones" found throughout Holderness and the Squam watershed. Families will head home with the knowledge to be local rangers and protectors of our beautiful natural spaces!

Yogi Bear (2010)
What to bring:
Though this program will be held primarily indoors, wearing warm, comfortable clothing is recommended. Snacks and coloring materials will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own! This program is geared toward children. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Meet this week's guide:
Diego Bautista Torres, who recently pivoted toward a career in environmental conservation, joined the Lakes Region Conservation Corps with a background in music production. After serving with AmeriCorps in the American Conservation Experience, he is eager to bring his technical skills and public speaking experience to the Squam Lakes Association. As an Education and Outreach Assistant, Diego looks forward to protecting the watershed through community engagement, scientific monitoring, and hands-on conservation work.
