    FULL – Hiking with Dogs

    February 5, 2025 @ 1:00 pm–3:00 pm

    Do you love hiking? Do you love dogs? What about hiking and dogs? Join the us on a hike through Whitten Woods to learn about best practices when hiking with dogs! Lakes Region Conservation Corps (LRCC) AmeriCorps member, Miranda Fisher, will lead the hike and teach participants about the best ways to recreate with dogs individually and in a group setting.

    More bark than bite: Winter tree ID

    They might not have their leaves but we can still ID trees! Join the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) on a 2.2 mile hike through Chamberlain Reynolds Memorial Forest to learn all about winter Tree ID. During the hike we will learn how to identify and distinguish trees based on bark, buds and needles.

    Full Moon Hike: West Rattlesnake

    Come join us for a full moon hike! Many Indigenous tribes have a ceremony appreciating the moons cycle each full moon. Whether you are curious about Indigenous culture or not, this is the perfect time to settle in to the new year and appreciate the environment around us!

    Figure out what to do, what to bring, and how to plan for a safe winter excursion. This program is meant to give beginners an overview of winter hiking gear, resources, and tips and tricks for exploring trails in the snow. Experienced hikers are welcome to join!

    Get the Dirt on Soil Health

    April 5, 2025 @ 9:00 am–11:00 am

    Join the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) on Saturday April 5 from 1-3 to learn all about soil! We will learn about the three major types of soil: sand, silt, and clay at the SLA headquarters. There will be a focus on gardening and soil health just in time for spring! Participants will learn how to identify the soils you have in your backyard and all the benefits of a good healthy soil.
