Guided Hike: Whitten Woods

Today's Guided Hike:
Come take part in what's sure to be a fun winter hike through Whitten Woods. Diego and fellow LRCC members will lead you on a hike through the Whitten Woods via the North Peak Trail loop. We will meet at the Whitten Woods parking lot to begin our hike. Get ready to enjoy some wonderful scenery on this moderate 2.5 mile long hike. Participants should come prepared with food/water, winter hiking gear, and of course positive energy!

What to bring:
Participants should be sure to have appropriate attire and layering for winter hiking. Extra layers, food/water, water resistant hiking boots, and snowshoes and/or microspikes may be needed depending on conditions. The SLA can provide snowshoes & microspikes if needed. Other snow hiking gear may be available upon request.

Meet this week's guide:
Diego Bautista Torres, who recently pivoted toward a career in environmental conservation, joined the Lakes Region Conservation Corps with a background in music production. After serving with AmeriCorps in the American Conservation Experience, he is eager to bring his technical skills and public speaking experience to the Squam Lakes Association. As an Education and Outreach Assistant, Diego looks forward to protecting the watershed through community engagement, scientific monitoring, and hands-on conservation work.

This 500+ acre property is owned by the New England Forest Foundation (NEFF). The Squam Lakes Conservation Society holds a conservation and trail easement, and the trails are maintained by the Squam Lakes Association (SLA).
