Bioinventory Bio-Blitz

Ever wondered what's living in your own backyard or along the trails of the Squam watershed? Join the Squam Lakes Association for a Bioinventory Bio-Blitz! We will learn how to use the Seek by iNaturalist app to turn your smartphone into a powerful scientific tool. After a quick tutorial, we’ll head out and wander the SLA campus for an exploration of the local flora and fauna. Whether you are a budding scientist or just curious about the natural world, come help us map the biodiversity of our watershed.

To get the most out of our adventure, please bring a smartphone or tablet with the Seek by iNaturalist app already downloaded. You’ll also want to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes that are suitable for the outdoors. Don't forget to pack some sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray, a water bottle, and snacks! Diego Bautista Torres, who recently pivoted toward a career in environmental conservation, joined the Lakes Region Conservation Corps with a background in music production. After serving with AmeriCorps in the American Conservation Experience, he is eager to bring his technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to the Squam Lakes Association. As an Education and Outreach Assistant, Diego looks forward to protecting the watershed through community engagement, scientific monitoring, and hands-on conservation work.
