Spot the Songbird Bingo

June 13 @ 7:30 am10:30 am

Today's Adventure Ecology:

Join us for a fun morning of birding at Chamberlain Reynolds! Whether you are an experienced birder or completely new to birdwatching, this program is a great opportunity to learn how to identify local birds by sight and sound. Participants will use bingo sheets as we search for birds along the trail and learn tips for spotting movement, listening for bird calls, and using binoculars. We will meet at Chamberlain Reynolds West Lot at 7:30 am. This program should be no longer than 3 hours. Anticipate walking at a slow pace for 2 miles. There will be brief stops along the way to note new species, important habitat, and have time to fill out bingo cards. Additionally, we will also distinguish migratory birds from year-round residents, and practice our birding etiquette.

This program is for all ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

This event is free but registration is required! Click the button below to register.

Location

Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest West Lot

Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest is a 157-acre forest with over a mile of waterfront and was donated to New England Forestry Foundation in 1953. Its shorefront area and trails are managed for public use by the Squam Lakes Association.

There are several beaches, a swamp board walk, and over 4 miles of hiking trails. The trails start on College Road in Center Harbor. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times.

What to bring

Participants should bring comfortable walking shoes, water, additional layers, and sunscreen/bug repellent. We also encourage participants to bring binoculars and field guides. Consider downloading the Merlin Bird ID as this is a great free mobile tool for bird ID. We are happy to teach you how to use it! The Squam Lakes Association will be providing bingo cards, clipboards, and writing utensils.

The Squam Lakes Association gear library has a limited available supply of binoculars free of charge. If you are interested in using a pair, please let us know in advance.
