Volunteer: Mt. Percival Trail Work Day

October 18, 2025 @ 9:00 am2:00 pm

Mt. Percival Trail is one of the most iconic hikes in the Squam Range, and we’re calling volunteers to help us maintain it. Join the Squam Lakes Association on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9am - 2pm as we clear waterbars and clean up the trail corridor with a team of AmeriCorp NCCC members that are currently serving at the SLA. This will be an ~2-mile hike (~4 miles out and back), and the trail is quite steep and rocky in some sections, so we encourage participants to consider their own comfort level.

This event is weather dependent. We will reach out if conditions become unsafe for the day.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

For more than 75 years, the trails in the Squam Lakes region have been maintained by the Squam Lakes Association. There are 57 miles of hiking trails and 3 miles of mountain bike trails in the SLA network, and the SLA performs over 2,500 hours of trail construction and maintenance each year with help from Volunteer Trail Adopters.

What to bring

If volunteers are able, they should bring their own work gloves, safety glasses and dirt-working tools like hoes and maddocks. The SLA will provide tools and PPE if needed. Please bring plenty of water, snacks, lunch, extra layers, hiking boots, sunscreen, and bug spray.

Location

Mt. Percival Trail
Mt. Percival Trail climbs Mt. Percival from NH-113 and offers outstanding views of Squam. On the final ascent to the peak, hikers can choose to take the cliffs route by following to the right, or the caves route by following to the left.
