Volunteer: Invasive Plant Removal at Cotton Mountain Trailhead

Join us to remove invasive plant species like knotweed and bittersweet from the Cotton Mountain Trailhead. We’ll use handsaws, loppers, and lay down barriers to curb the spread of invasives, which will help native plants reclaim the corridor. Participants will also get to work with a crew of AmeriCorps NCCC members who are currently serving at the SLA to help maintain our trail network.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
For more than 75 years, the trails in the Squam Lakes region have been maintained by the Squam Lakes Association. There are 57 miles of hiking trails and 3 miles of mountain bike trails in the SLA network, and the SLA performs over 2,500 hours of trail construction and maintenance each year with help from Volunteer Trail Adopters.
What to bring
Volunteers should bring loppers, hand saws, eye pro, and gloves if they have them. The SLA will be providing tools and PPE as well. Please bring plenty of water, snacks, extra layers, hiking boots, sunscreen, and bug spray.

Cotton Mountain Trailhead, Holderness
Cotton Mountain Trail begins in an old gravel pit on NH-133, 1.1 miles from US-3 in Holderness. While the trail is quite steep, the views are worth the effort. This trail provides access to the southern end of the Crawford-Ridgepole Trail.
