Guided Hike: Chamberlain Reynolds Memorial Forest

March 18 @ 10:00 am1:00 pm

Today's Wednesday Winter Hike:

Looking for a reason to get outside on a winter morning or to get some practice snowshoeing? Join our Lakes Region Conservation Corps members on a moderate 2.5 mile hiking loop around Chamberlain Reynolds Beach trail and Wister Point. This flat trail is great for taking in forest scenery and views of Squam lake from the beach. With safe conditions, it may be possible to walk out onto the frozen lake!

Our facilitated winter hikes can help you get comfortable hiking in the winter season and introduce you to locals and visitors looking to explore. Additionally, these hikes are all a part of the Squam Rangers challenge hosted by the SLA. While not required, this is a great chance to check some hikes off your list if you are working towards your Squam Ranger!

All skill levels are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration is required for this free event.

Location

Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest West Lot

Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest is a 157-acre forest with over a mile of waterfront and was donated to New England Forestry Foundation in 1953. Its shorefront area and trails are managed for public use by the Squam Lakes Association.

There are several beaches, a swamp board walk, and over 4 miles of hiking trails. The trails start on College Road in Center Harbor. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times.

What to bring

Please pack snacks, water, and a lunch! We will be taking breaks on the trail as needed.

Participants should be sure to have appropriate attire and layering for winter hiking. Extra layers, comfortable water resistant hiking shoes, and snowshoes and/or microspikes may be needed depending on conditions. The SLA can provide snowshoes & microspikes for up to six participants. Other snow hiking gear may be available upon request.

Not sure what to pack? Check out our Winter Day Hiking Checklist for some ideas. Feel free to reach out to the SLA with any questions!
