Hike Squam and help support trail maintenance
Squam Rangers are a dedicated group of hikers who have conquered 50+ miles of trails in the Squam Watershed. Proceeds from this program support annual trail maintenance.
With an estimated 30,000 hikers annually on Rattlesnakes' Old Bridle Path alone, maintenance is a daunting task. The SLA performs over 2,500 hours of trail construction and maintenance each year through our Lakes Region Conservation Corps members, professional trail crew, and volunteer trail adopters.
Trail maintenance includes clearing debris from the drainage structures (aka: waterbars), clearing vegetation along the trails, and completing a trail maintenance assessment (trail reconstruction needs, approximate location of blowdowns, and missing signs or blazes, etc.).
