Volunteer: Trail Work Day on Brooks Fisher Trail and CRT
September 7, 2025 @ 9:00 am–2:00 pm

Join the Squam Lakes Association on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 9AM - 2PM, as we clean up a section of our hiking network in the Squam Range. We will take a hike up Brooks Fisher Trail and continue along the Crawford-Ridgepole Trail (CRT) until we hit Mt. Webster. Along the way, we'll remove blowdowns and cut back overgrown brush to clear the routes for hikers, as well as prepare this CRT section for the Squam Ridge Race. At Mt. Webster, we will rest to enjoy lunch and celebrate a job well done before hiking back to the Brooks Fisher parking lot. This hike will be 2.8 miles one way, making it a 5.6-mile round trip. Trail work is a great way to enjoy the best hikes around Squam and meet fellow hikers while giving back to the community!
For more than 75 years, the trails in the Squam Lakes region have been maintained by the Squam Lakes Association. There are 57 miles of hiking trails and 3 miles of mountain bike trails in the SLA network, and the SLA performs over 2,500 hours of trail construction and maintenance each year with help from Volunteer Trail Adopters.
This event is weather dependent. We will reach out if conditions become unsafe for the day.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
What to bring
If participants are able, we recommend bringing tools such as loppers, grass whips, work gloves and eye protection. The SLA will be providing tools and PPE as well. We recommend bringing plenty of water, snacks, lunch, extra layers, hiking boots, sunscreen, and bug spray.
Location
Brooks Fisher Trail Head
Brooks Fisher Trail follows gentle switchbacks up the northern side of the Squam Range, passing evidence of Squam's history such as gravestones, rock walls of the former pasture land, and a cellar hole.
