On Friday, December 19th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, the Squam Lakes Association will be hosting an introductory stargazing workshop. What better place to gaze at the stars than at Squam Lake! We will learn all about stargazing 101, such as recommended materials, how to use a sky chart, and how to spot some important constellations. We will spend a brief period indoors going over some of the basics before heading out into the winter night down by our shore front to put that knowledge to work! This is a great event for all ages to spend some time outside and explore the night sky.
Registration is required for this free event.

Meet us in the Great Room, just through the front doors.
Bring your enthusiuam for the stars! Nothing else is required. If you have a headlamp with a red light you are welcome to bring that.
Participants may want to bring a cell phone to make use of some helpful stargazing apps.
As for clothing- we will be standing still outside at night in December, so appropriate attire is essential for an enjoyable experience. Dress in layers. Insulated boots, thermals, jacket, gloves, scarf, and a warm knit cap are all recommended.
Meet this week's guide
This stargazing night will be led by Kyle Salmons, the SLA's Director of Education. Kyle will have been in his role at the SLA for 2 years come January, but he first came to New Hampshire to join the SLA as an intern in 2015. After the internship, he was a camp counselor for the JSLA program, JSLA camp director, and was an AmeriCorps member in 2018 before working as a Naturalist at the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center. Now back at the SLA, you can find Kyle skating on the ice in the winter, looking for animal tracks, or bundled up near a fire with a science fiction book.
