Local ecosystems provide many services for us that we may not even notice. Join the Squam Lakes Association at Chamberlain Reynolds Memorial Forest on Monday, June 23, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, for a hike where we will dive deeper in ecosystem services. Participants can expect to learn more about their local ecosystems on this 2.0 mile hike. We will stop at a few unique places along the trail to discuss the different types of services they provide.
Ecosystems services vary from cultural to biological, with each one providing important benefits. Understanding each of these benefits and their impact is important in how we appreciate our surroundings and how we work to conserve the land as well. This is a great program for anyone looking to learn more about their surroundings or if you just want to get outside more this spring!
Participants should have spring hiking gear and be prepared for rain or shine. Please bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen and bugspray.
Meet this week's guide
Hello! My name is Emma Murray and I’m a recent graduate of SUNY ESF College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York. I just graduated with a degree in Environmental Biology and applied my love of silviculture to get a minor in Forestry. I adore being in nature and sharing tons of fun facts about trees, you’ve been warned if you ever go on a walk with me! If I’m not in the woods hiking around for cool plants you can find me baking, reading a cool fantasy book or working on one of my knitting projects.
