This Week's Program: Join us for a relaxing afternoon of making art inspired by the outdoors. Learn about creating art en plein air, a style of Impressionist art which literally means creating art outside. We will be spending a relaxing afternoon putting the beauty of the Squam watershed onto paper or canvas through painting or whatever artistic medium you prefer. Participants are encouraged to bring their own art supplies, though we will also be providing some acrylic and watercolor paints as well as pastels in addition to paper, canvases, and pencils. Be prepared to spend a few hours outside so bring a hat and wear sunscreen! Light refreshments will be provided.

This program is in partnership with the Holderness Free Library who is allowing us the use of their space, the Squam Lakes Restaurant & Marketplace which is generously donating refreshments for participants, and Artistic Roots which has donated painting materials for participants.

What to Bring: While basic supplies are provided, participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies if you have them! Please wear clothes you’re not afraid to stain if you are painting. A hat and other forms of sun protection are encouraged as well.

Audience: This program is open to adults..

This Week's SLA Staff Guide:
My name is Tara Wu, and I am an LRCC Watershed Resource Assistant with the Squam Lakes Association. I recently graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in environmental science and journalism. Prior to joining the Lakes Region Conservation Corps, I taught English in urban and rural Taiwan for two years through the Fulbright program, which is also where I fell in love with cycling. I enjoy reading (from memoirs to classics and everything in between), hiking, and drawing. I am from the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania.

SLA's Adventure Ecology Trips:
Throughout the year, the Squam Lakes Association offers free programs open to the public on a variety of nature and conservation related topics. The Adventure Ecology programs are presented by the Lakes Region Conservation Corps members who perform important conservation work in support of the Association's mission.

Lakes Region Conservation Corps
The Lakes Region Conservation Corps (LRCC) is an AmeriCorps service program that develops skills and experiences for conservation professionals. LRCC members are the driving force behind the Squam Lakes Association’s conservation efforts. The program provides hands-on conservation work experience and numerous certifications over a broad range of areas, which ensures that LRCC members are capable of independently approaching a variety of tasks in the environmental conservation field. Members remove invasive species from the Squam watershed, manage and act as caretakers at our backcountry campsites, maintain the SLA’s 50+ miles of trails, educate the public on local and regional conservation initiatives, spearhead reports on conservation efforts, lead SLA volunteer crews and ensure the daily functioning of the Squam Lakes Association’s programs.Click here to learn more about the program.
