Audience: Anyone who wants to take some time to slow down and enjoy a mindful walk through the woods. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This Week's Program: Come join Meg for a 2-mile mindful walk through Belknap Woods on April 14 from 2-4:30 PM. You will learn about mindfulness practices and go through some exercise as we walk along the loop trail. This will be a great opportunity to learn how to incorporate these practices into your life whether you’re at school, home, or work. This is meant to be a relaxing slow paced walk through the woods while we take in nature and set time aside in our day to slow down for a bit.

What to Bring: Participants are welcome, but not required, to bring a sit pad, blanket, journals and writing materials if you would like to use them during our quiet moments. Participants should also bring water and any food you feel like you might need as well. Bring a positive attitude and open mind to breathe in some of nature’s air.

Participants should be sure to have appropriate attire and layering for the hike. Weather can change frequently here so please bring extra layers to be prepared for those changes. Trails this time of year can also be muddy so wearing comfortable water resistant hiking shoes or boots you don't mind getting dirty is best.

This Week's SLA LRCC Guide: Hello everyone my name is Meg Jacobs and I am a member of the Squam Lakes Association and am serving with the Lakes Region Conservation Corps. I am from Salisbury Massachusetts and went to school at the University of New Hampshire where I studied Wildlife Conservation and Biology. I have loved hiking since the day I was carried up a mountain by my parents, sadly no one carries me anymore but walking up on my own is just as fun. I love finding the perfect spot to sit and observe nature and can't wait for all the adventures I will find around the Squam Lakes!

SLA's Adventure Ecology Trips:

Throughout the year, the Squam Lakes Association offers free programs open to the public on a variety of nature and conservation related topics. The Adventure Ecology programs are presented by the Lakes Region Conservation Corps members who perform important conservation work in support of the Association's mission.

Lakes Region Conservation Corps

The Lakes Region Conservation Corps (LRCC) is an AmeriCorps service program that develops skills and experiences for conservation professionals. LRCC members are the driving force behind the Squam Lakes Association’s conservation efforts. The program provides hands-on conservation work experience and numerous certifications over a broad range of areas, which ensures that LRCC members are capable of independently approaching a variety of tasks in the environmental conservation field. Members remove invasive species from the Squam watershed, manage and act as caretakers at our backcountry campsites, maintain the SLA’s 50+ miles of trails, educate the public on local and regional conservation initiatives, spearhead reports on conservation efforts, lead SLA volunteer crews and ensure the daily functioning of the Squam Lakes Association’s programs.
