This Week's Program: Come join Meg and Peter on a guided hike April 4th from 3-5:00 PM on a 3 mile out-and-back hike on the Lower Red Hill River Trail. This hike is considered easy, but it may have saturated ground. What better time to test out how water resistant your boots are! This is a great time to meet spring head-on. This is a low pressure environment for both the hike and nature appreciation, so please come join us!

What to Bring: participants should bring adequate food and water for the duration of the hike. You should also wear appropriate footwear and clothing for weather conditions. While winter conditions are unlikely, be prepared for possible chilly temperatures. An extra pair of socks would be a good idea as well!

Participants should also be sure to have appropriate attire and layering for hiking, extra layers, and comfortable water resistant hiking shoes as well as snowshoes and/or microspikes depending on conditions. The SLA can provide snowshoes & microspikes for up to six participants. Click here to view a list of SLA recommended gear for winter hiking.

Audience: The intended audience for everyone. The trail is generally considered an easy route.

This Week's SLA Staff Guide:

Hello everyone my name is Meg Jacobs and I am a member of the Squam Lakes Association and am serving with the Lakes Region Conservation Corps. I am from Salisbury Massachusetts and went to school at the University of New Hampshire where I studied Wildlife Conservation and Biology. I have loved hiking since the day I was carried up a mountain by my parents, sadly no one carries me anymore but walking up on my own is just as fun. I love finding the perfect spot to sit and observe nature and can't wait for all the adventures I will find around the Squam Lakes!

SLA's Adventure Ecology Trips:

Throughout the year, the Squam Lakes Association offers free programs open to the public on a variety of nature and conservation related topics. The Adventure Ecology programs are presented by the Lakes Region Conservation Corps members who perform important conservation work in support of the Association's mission.

Lakes Region Conservation Corps

The Lakes Region Conservation Corps (LRCC) is an AmeriCorps service program that develops skills and experiences for conservation professionals. LRCC members are the driving force behind the Squam Lakes Association’s conservation efforts. The program provides hands-on conservation work experience and numerous certifications over a broad range of areas, which ensures that LRCC members are capable of independently approaching a variety of tasks in the environmental conservation field. Members remove invasive species from the Squam watershed, manage and act as caretakers at our backcountry campsites, maintain the SLA’s 50+ miles of trails, educate the public on local and regional conservation initiatives, spearhead reports on conservation efforts, lead SLA volunteer crews and ensure the daily functioning of the Squam Lakes Association’s programs.
