Cole Beale dives into the world of cyanobacteria. Cyanobacterial Harmful Algal Blooms (cyanoHABs) are often misinterpreted. When we think of cyanoHAB, we tend to think of a bright green surface scum or the lake surface looking like 'pea soup'. However, not every cyanobacterial bloom is the same and not every cyanobacterial bloom is a cyanoHAB. The complex and dynamic nature of these blooms has only been magnified with increasing research on the subject. What causes cyanoHABs and the risk that one can pose to humans is not as simple as it may have once been thought to be.
