SUMMARY:The Soundscape of Squam Lake
DESCRIPTION:Today's Program:\n\nBe honest\, when was the last time you stopped and truly listened to the world around you? Join the Squam Lakes Association for our program dedicated to reconnecting with nature through our ears. We’ll begin with a brief introduction to the science of sound before heading out for a guided hike to identify the rhythmic crunches\, sharp pops\, and natural melodies that define the winter watershed. To stay cozy on our journey\, please come prepared with food\, water\, and warm layers; if you need extra traction\, the SLA has a limited supply of snowshoes and microspikes to keep you covered! It’s a wonderful way to gain a new perspective on the auditory beauty of our environment—sounds fun\, right?Check out the 'what to bring' section below for more details. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Register Here \n\n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\nWhat to bring:\n\nParticipants should be sure to have appropriate attire and layering for winter hiking. Extra layers\, food/water\, water resistant hiking boots\, and snowshoes and/or microspikes may be needed depending on conditions. The SLA can provide snowshoes & microspikes if needed. Other snow hiking gear may be available upon request. Not sure what to pack? Check out our Winter Day Hiking Checklist for some ideas. Feel free to reach out to the SLA with any questions!\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\nMeet this week's guide:\n\nDiego Bautista Torres\, who recently pivoted toward a career in environmental conservation\, joined the Lakes Region Conservation Corps with a background in music production. After serving with AmeriCorps in the American Conservation Experience\, he is eager to bring his technical skills and public speaking experience to the Squam Lakes Association. As an Education and Outreach Assistant\, Diego looks forward to protecting the watershed through community engagement\, scientific monitoring\, and hands-on conservation work.\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\nLocation:\n\nCollege Rd\, Center Harbor\, NH 03226\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n Chamberlain Reynolds Memorial Forest\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n\nThis 500+ acre property is owned by the New England Forest Foundation (NEFF).
