SUMMARY:Get the Dirt on Soil Health
DESCRIPTION:Today's Adventure Ecology:\n\nJoin the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) to learn all about soil! We will learn about the three major types of soil: sand\, silt\, and clay at the SLA headquarters. There will be a focus on gardening and soil health just in time for spring! Soil is the building block of all natural life\, plants and animals. A good soil is the make or break for how well your gardens and landscaping bloom. Knowing the classification of your soil\, its moisture content\, the pH and other characteristic will aid in making you land the most productive it can be. Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of soil health and will enjoy getting their hands dirty experimenting. The SLA works to conserve all parts of the Squam Watershed\, so come learn more about soil classification\, the role micro biomes play in conservation\, and how to use this information for your very own garden. All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by adults. This Program is now full. You're welcome to join our waitlist by clicking the button below. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Waitlist\n\n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\nWhat to bring\n\nParticipants should be sure to have clothing the don't mind getting a little dirty. We will be going outside to harvest some soil so warmer layers and hiking shoes would be a good idea.We will have soil test strips so if you'd like to test your own soil bring a small cup sized amount. \n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\nMeet this week's guide\n\nHello! My name is Emma Murray and I’m a recent graduate of SUNY ESF College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse\, New York. I just graduated with a degree in Environmental Biology and applied my love of silviculture to get a minor in Forestry. I adore being in nature and sharing tons of fun facts about trees\, you’ve been warned if you ever go on a walk with me! If I’m not in the woods hiking around for cool plants you can find me baking\, reading a cool fantasy book or working on one of my knitting projects. Growing up in Lakewood\, Ohio by Lake Erie and working with the National Park Service on Lake Michigan has given me such an appreciation for aquatic ecosystems and their critical role in our planets wellbeing. I’m very excited to spend a season working with the Lakes Region Conservation Corps and getting to experience New Hampshire’s beauty. \n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\nSquam Lakes Association\n\nMeet us down by the water edge!\n\nSquam Lakes Association\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n 534 US Route 3Holderness\, NH 03245\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\nSLA's Adventure Ecology trips\n\nThroughout the year\, the Squam Lakes Association offers free programs open to the public on a variety of nature and conservation related topics. The Adventure Ecology programs are presented by the Lakes Region Conservation Corps members who perform important conservation work in support of the Association's mission.\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\nLakes Region Conservation Corps\n\nThe Lakes Region Conservation Corps (LRCC) is an AmeriCorps service program that develops skills and experiences for conservation professionals.
