SUMMARY:Who's that Macroinvertebrate?
DESCRIPTION:Today's Adventure Ecology:\n\nJoin us for a morning to learn all about the aquatic bugs living in our waterways! Macroinvertebrates are a diverse set of organisms that play an important role in our aquatic ecosystems. They serve as bioindicators\, organisms that can be used to determine if pollutants are present in a lake or stream. They are also incredibly fun to catch\, observe\, and identify! This event will start with a streamside discussion on what a macroinvertebrate is\, what a bioindicator is\, and why aquatic diversity is important. This will be followed by a kick netting demonstration\, the sampling method we will be using for the morning. During this time we will also go over some of our more common macroinvertebrates and how to use an identification sheet. Finally\, you will be using your skills to capture and identify macroinvertebrates\, drawing conclusions about Owl Brooks biodiversity and potential pollution.Space is limited at the Owl Brook Pull-off. Consider meeting us at the SLA and carpooling in our van. More details provided after signing up.This program is for all ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult. This event is free but registration is required!
