Reading the Forested Landscape

Join the Squam Lakes Association’s Lakes Region Conservation Corps member Meg as we take a walk back in time at Five Finger Point. Using the book Reading the Forested Landscape: A Natural History of New England by Tom Wessels, we will have a beautiful fall hike on the moderately difficult 2.7-mile loop trail, and stop at different spots to talk about the history of the land and passages from the book.

A BAT-ty Celebration

Join Lakes Region Conservation Corps member Meg at the Squam Lakes Association for a bat-filled evening as we celebrate Bat Week. This program will have education opportunities and activities for all ages. Come learn about the bat's role in our watershed and how you can protect them during the spooky season and year round.

Starlight Savings Time

You asked, we answered: stargazing is back at West Rattlesnake! The shortening days and early nightfall may make this time of year seem dreary, but they’re a great chance to see the stars and still get home at a reasonable hour. We’ll hike up to the summit for a stellar view of constellations, planets, and other celestial phenomena, as well as the beautiful vista of Squam Lake at night.

Let’s Go Nuts!

Come be nutty with LRCC member Meg at Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest November 5th from 11-2PM on an Adventure Ecology that will crack you out of your shell. Learn about and ID native trees in our watershed as we enjoy an easy 2 mile walk, stopping to talk about anything nut-worthy, mast years, trees, seeds and more conversations that will drive you nutty.

Volunteer: Trail Work Half Day

Volunteer with Lakes Region Conservation Corps members for a half day of trail work from 9:00am to 1:00pm! We will focus on removing blowdowns, clearing branches that encroach within the trail corridor, brushing in portions of the trail where the path is unclear, and checking blazes along the way.

Guided Hike: Wentworth Trail

Challenge yourself to a climb on the LRCC's very last guided hike of the season! We’ll begin our trek at historic Mead Base on the southern slope of Mt. Israel, then ascend the two-mile Wentworth Trail to its summit, where we’ll enjoy beautiful views of the Sandwich Range before heading back down.

Squ-inter is Coming!

Come join Peter and Meg for their last Adventure Ecology program of their AmeriCorps service at Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest.
