SUMMARY:Spot the Songbird Bingo
DESCRIPTION:Today's Adventure Ecology:\n\nJoin the Squam Lakes Association on a hike exploring Five Finger Point on Saturday\, May 31st\, from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m.\, looking for birds!  During this hike\, we will go through different habitats of the Five Finger Points\, coves\, pools\, and forested areas to discover different bird species. Lakes Region Conservation Corps (LRCC) AmeriCorps member\, Emma Murray\, will lead the hike and teach participants characteristics to look for while birding and help ID birds. If you are an experienced birder\, please join! If you have no experience birding\, we’ll teach out the basics about what to look for when ID-ing a bird. This will be a relaxed program where we hike and look for whatever birds are in the area. All ages are welcome. Spring weather is variable so be prepared with layers and snacks. If Participants have their own binoculars to use during the hike that would be great\, but not required as sound identification is the most common way to ID birds. If you have the ability to download CornellLab's Merlin Bird ID application on a phone this would also be a helpful tool to help Identify birds\, and can be used to help you ID birds in other locations around the Lakes Region! \n\n\n  \n  \n	\n\n\n\n\nMeet this week's guide\n\nHello! My name is Emma Murray and I’m a recent graduate of SUNY ESF College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse\, New York. I just graduated with a degree in Environmental Biology and applied my love of silviculture to get a minor in Forestry. I adore being in nature and sharing tons of fun facts about trees\, you’ve been warned if you ever go on a walk with me! Five Finger Point is also owned by UNH\, and the lands surrounding these conservation areas are privately owned. Other partners include Squam Lakes Conservation Society (who owns East Rattlesnake Preserve)\, Pinehurst Association (of which Lakes Region Conservation Trust holds a conservation easement on a portion of land)\, Webster Land Co\, and Rockywold Deephaven Camps (where SLCS holds an easement on a portion of land).\n\n\n\n  \n  \n	\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n	\n\n\n\n\nSLA's Adventure Ecology trips\n\nThroughout the year\, the Squam Lakes Association offers free programs open to the public on a variety of nature and conservation related topics.The Adventure Ecology programs are presented by the Lakes Region Conservation Corps members who perform important conservation work in support of the Association's mission.
