Advocacy
If you live in the state of New Hampshire, we ask you to reach out to Governor Ayotte and urge her to sign on to the lawsuit filed by 25 states against the federal government challenging the dismantling of AmeriCorps programs. We are the only state in New England that has not signed on to this lawsuit.
Our message
This program has been an efficient and effective partnership between the Lakes Region Conservation Corps and the 8 host site partners. The program grant funded member stipends, group training, and the position that coordinated the sites and managed agency compliance. The host sites fund supervisors, site and organization-specific training, housing, health care, and all projects.
For the SLA, this has meant that milfoil removal, which protects fish habitat, swimming, and boating as well as property value, has been done at a cost that is a fraction of that of other lakes. It has contained the cost of direct restoration, nutrient removal, and stopping legacy contaminants from entering Squam. It has meant that the vast majority of our public programs have been offered free of charge, and it has meant that over 20 public access sites at trailheads and on the lake have remained open and free to the public.
Support SLA's Conservation Corps
Due to an unexpected loss of funding for our Lakes Region Conservation Corps crew, we’re asking for your help to keep critical conservation work going on and around Squam Lake. The SLA Conservation Corps is essential to protecting our trails, preserving water quality, and caring for this special place we all love. Without immediate support, our capacity to maintain this work is at risk.
